Hours after CBS officially announced it had renewed the summer reality staple for a 15th season, it was down to business at the Big Brother house. The first two parts of the final -- and most important -- HOH competition, played before finale night, aired for all to see with Dan taking Pt. 1 (after an elaborate plan by Dan for Ian/Danielle to throw it to him) and Ian winning Pt. 2 (after Dan concocts yet another plan -- to act "happy" Ian's won -- to save his butt should Danielle not come up victorious).

Green, like alleged shooter James Holmes on July 20 at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises, has a full head of red hair.

9. Meet Marley Rose (Benoist), the newest member of New Directions who has the show's second-best parent in her mother, played by Trisha Rae Stahl (ER). Turns out her dearest mother just so happens to be McKinley's new lunch lady and the subject of barbs from everyone, including the newly popular New Directions gang. Marley auditions to "New York State of Mind," which is intercut with Rachel's first public NYADA performance. The track earns both high marks, with Marley turning enough heads to make the returning New Directions members take notice -- and perhaps wonder if they've just met the new Rachel. Her first big number as part of the gang: Adele's "Chasing Pavements," which leaves Jake -- who sneaks in to watch rehearsal -- in awe.

Everybody loves to laugh at the cliche, and reality shows love to exploit that. Like Jersey Shore. But once the cliches are in on the joke, they start pandering to the camera, and some of the joy is lost. They just become annoying because now they’ve taken the power we had over them -- laughing at their pathetic lives -- and are turning it into cash.

Banks: I took a break. I had to check out a little bit and realized I needed to go away. I went to Bali and took the entire first season with me on discs and studied it while I was there to understand why we are successful and what got us there in the first place and what we did in terms of being creative and what we left on the table that we shouldn't have. [I realized] it was the story of our girls. We got too much into teaching and challenges and photo shoots and eliminations. So you'll see in cycle 19 so much of the story will be getting to know the girls, whether emotional or comedic. There's a cycle one rawness to it.
